all the weddings i've gone to, photographers have done this.

As a videographer, I hate it because they steal your shots.

As a client, I would love to see photographers capturing every moment possible.

I'm sure the clients want the photographers to capture every moment. However, there's got to be a line between capturing important moments and blocking live audience view in a disrespectful way.

Just like our videographers do, they can use telephoto lens to zoom in so they don't have to be standing 4 feet in front of the clients the entire time. It refects their professionalism too.

I got one for you...

what happens when they are shooting with a 50mm?!?!

:D JK, I mean, when I filmed my weddings, I felt bad for getting in too close for shots, so I kept my distance.

But then I missed out on all the good shots. A zoom would work, but it just wouldn't match a close up lens. I wonder what StillMotion does

I would still say the same thing. You have to judge a balance between getting good shots and not being everywhere blocking everybody's view. Imagine our two videographers also stood that close, live audience will only see 4 asses =)

And also note, that a photographer (more than a videgrapher) tends to grasp a picture more on the feel.
And yes, I make journeys and while on the way, I alway feel lonely, being the only videgrapher among a thousand flashers.

I have rarely (but occasionally) gotten in front of a photographer at a key moment. In the times that I have been in front of their shot, it was always because they changed their position behind me somewhere after I set up my shot. Even in those situations, though, I have always told the photographer in advance that I'm willing to work with them to make sure we both get our shots.

Still occasionally, I get something similar to your video - but not NEARLY that bad!

By opening a dialogue early early early, I have made it so that I can walk up to them at any point in the day and say "how's it going? Getting some good shots?" but more importantly "hey buddy, you just jumped up and stood right in front of my camera during the first dance." I also make a stern face, seems to help. :)

Most people hate any kind of confrontation, so if you open (and maintain) dialogue with the photographer(s) early at the event, you will be able to tell them when they're SCREWING IT UP and know that they will probably feel compelled to may more attention to you, lest you should bring it to their attention again.

We have done what we could do. We talked to the photographers in the morning. You can see there isn't much of that problem during the day. However, when you are dealing with unprofessional people having an intention or ignoring you, nothing much you can do.

Wow, that was really bad! The little I've done shooting weddings even I've had a few blocked shots, but not anymore. Turns out they learn quickly with the right accessory attached to your camera.
